The Liturgy of the Eucharist (Second Session)
10 am in the Adoration Chapel

The General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM) states that “The Mass consists in some sense of two parts namely, the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist, these being so closely interconnected that they form but one single act of worship” (no. 28). This “single act of worship” is a fundamental description of what takes place in the Eucharistic celebration, for these two major parts of the Mass draw us into the saving mystery of Jesus Christ, namely, his death and Resurrection.
These two presentations will consider the elements and flow of The Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist, how they developed historically, practical considerations, and spiritual implications. How we celebrate these two major structural parts of the Mass helps us to surrender ourselves to the transforming power of God’s living word in Sacred Scripture at the Table of the Word, and the unsurpassed self-giving love of the risen Christ’s nourishment at the Table of the Eucharist.
